About CHRIS
It was with a preexisting heart for adventure that in the fall of 2011 Chris and his family relocated from the Southeast to Seattle to begin his psychotherapy training.
He didn’t know a mountain could change his life, but it was with Mount Rainier as his muse that Chris discovered a counseling approach that utilizes his love for the outdoors and both traditional (indoor) and experiential (outdoor) therapeutic environments. Chris's therapeutic style is analogous to that of a relational mountain guide.
For much of his life, Chris knew what it was like to live at the base of the mountain and watch others make their way to the top with absolutely no belief that he too would ever know the feeling of reaching the summit. Unbeknownst to him, the power of his “I can’t” was far greater than any mountain he would ever attempt to climb. With the help of a guide, it wasn’t that he couldn’t reach the top; he just needed someone to show him the way.
Having experienced the feeling of the first summit in his own healing, growth, and change journey, Chris was inspired to step into the role of a relational, therapeutic guide, and encourage, equip, and empower clients longing to face their own mountains.
After earning his Masters of Counseling Psychology in the spring of 2015, Chris was invited to join a successful group therapy practice in Nashville, Tennessee where he could utilize his unique trauma training, passion for groups, and clinical internship experience with acute anxiety and depression disorders.
Almost two years to the day, Chris, his wife, two kids, and their sweet pup Rainier Grey, relocated back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest with a longing to thrive in their favorite city and launch his vision for Grey Sky Counseling Co. Much to their surprise, the decision to return to Seattle was quickly affirmed when the Byers Tribe epic road trip across America ended with a glorious view of their favorite mountain. Rainier was saying, “Welcome home”.
Grey Sky Counseling Co. reopened its doors in February of 2018 with a vision to help others navigate both the broken and beautiful parts of their own stories and discover that thriving is truly possible. When faced with the mountains of life, it can be a daunting task to find our way to the top. You do not have to climb alone.
